Description
W63, also known as G82.2+5.3, is a large, faint supernova remnant (SNR) located in the constellation Cygnus, named after its listing in the Westerhout radio catalog. It appears as a faint, oval shell of Oxygen III (OIII) emission, requiring long exposures to observe, and is roughly 10,000 light-years away.
I took on the challenge to image this ridiculously faint SNR from my Bortle 6 home and I ruthlessly tossed most of the subs due to light pollution or moon or just bad data and ended up with 30 hours of usable OIII and 25 or so hours of Ha and SIII combined.
Processing this one was a hairball! I used both SHO and HOO and blended and created a lum for bringing out fine OIII details.
